Everything to Know About Ober Mountain Snow Tubing and Winter Sports

Are you planning a Smoky Mountain vacation during the colder weather months? There are so many great activities to choose from, but Ober Mountain in Gatlinburg TN should be at the top of your list! Plus, it’s super close to our restaurant, so you can enjoy a delicious meal before or after you head up the mountain. Take a look at all the details about Ober Mountain snow tubing and the other winter sports you’ll want to experience with your family:

Snow Tubing

Ober Mountain snow tubingOber Mountain snow tubing is by far one of the best family-friendly activities in Gatlinburg during the winter! Their massive tubing hill is 350 feet long with an impressive 50-foot total drop. Don’t worry about climbing back up every time, the “magic carpet” brings you back to the top after each run! Each session is 90 minutes long, and we suggest getting your tickets well in advance due to high demand, especially on holidays and weekends. Currently, the riding restrictions are as follows:

  • Individuals must be 42 inches tall to ride alone
  • Those under 42 inches tall must ride with an adult 18 years or older.
  • Individuals must be able to ride the conveyor unassisted and in a standing position.

Skiing & Snowboarding

Other popular winter sports at Ober Mountain include skiing and snowboarding. You can even rent equipment or take lessons to sharpen your skills before hitting the slopes! Also, a child 5 years old and under is free with a paying adult.

Unlimited Ride Wristband

We highly recommend getting a wristband for the best experience at Ober Mountain. Remember to check specific ride restrictions before you visit! Included in the wristband price is access to the following activities:

ober mountain aerial tramAerial Tramway: The ride up to the top of Ober Mountain provides some of the most jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring views of the Smokies you’ll ever see! The completely enclosed gondola is great for families, especially if someone in your group is a little squeamish about heights.

Scenic Chairlift: If you’d prefer to experience a chairlift ride, you can do that too! The view of Mt. LeConte from there is breathtaking!

Ice Skating: Families also love ice skating at Ober’s massive indoor skating rink. Rental skates are included, and the rink has a convenient handrail around the perimeter for beginners.

Snow Zone: The kids can build snowmen and make snow angels to their heart’s content! This outdoor snow play area is suitable for all ages; however, those 6 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Tennessee Flyer: Ober’s mountain coaster reaches speeds of up to 25 mph or you can choose to take the ride at a slower pace. This ride is available to anyone over the age of 3, and the weight limit is 300 pounds.

Additional activities include a beautiful carousel, wildlife habitat, a rock climbing wall, and so much more, but the true standouts are definitely the attraction’s winter-specific activities!
